En vanlig oppfatning av dem som nærmer seg Bibelen med et historisk-kritisk bibelsyn, er at Israels religion ikke var stort annerledes enn de religionene folkene omkring dem hadde. De mener også at israelittene hadde det samme verdensbilde og var sterkt påvirket av dem.
Men hva viser fakta? I foredraget vil Dan-Åke Mattsson vise at israelittenes religion som er presentert i Bibelen er helt unik. Selv om arkeologien har vist at “hebreerne var mye som sine naboer når det gjaldt bolig, mat, klesdrakt, handel, jordbruk, håndverk, redskap, våpen, språk, skrift og mange andre ferdigheter” var deres religion helt annerledes, den var unik.
Foredraget kommer til å ta opp følgende sider av Israels religion og sammenligne dette med religionene til folkeslagene rundt israelittene:
