Jazzlegenden Sun Ra kalles gjerne for afro-futurismens far og er en en av de mest myteomspunnende figurene jazzhistorien har sett. Han var pianist, komponist, arrangør, poet og filosof – og har alltid vært omsluttet av en aura av mystikk og myter. Selv påstod han at han var ankommet jorden fra planeten Saturn, for å bære fram sitt budskap om fred og altruisme. Etter at Sun Ra døde i 1993 har orkesteret hans fortsatt å turnere under ledelse av den 90-årige saxofonisten Marshall Allen.
Det 12-manns store Sun Ra Arkestra blander swingende storbandarrangementer med fri improvisasjon og avantgarde jazz, i en storslått hyllest til sin åndelige leder. Sun Ra Arkestra er galskap, groove og intergalaktisk kaos!

Jazz legend Sun Ra is often called the father of Afro-futurism and is one of the most legendary figures jazz history has seen. He was a pianist, composer, arranger, poet and philosopher – and has always been surrounded by an aura of mystery and myths. After Sun Ra’s death in 1993, his orchestra has continued touring under the leadership of the 90-year-old saxophonist Marshall Allen.
The 12-man big Sun Ra Arkestra blends swinging big band arrangements with free improvisation and avant-garde jazz, in a magnificent tribute to their spiritual leader. Sun Ra Arkestra is madness, groove and intergalactic mayhem!
