Den er duket for et sjeldent, men etterlengtet, besøk når den amerikanske saxofonisten Steve Coleman kommer til Kongsberg Jazzfestival med sitt faste band Five Elements.

Steve Coleman var med og grunnla musikerkollektivet M-Base i New York på 1980-tallet. Her har han vært en profilert og sentral skikkelse sammen med musikere som Cassandra Wilson og Geri Allen. Steve Coleman har hele livet vært en utforskende musiker og han har eksperimentert mye med å blande jazz med andre musikkformer. Jazzgigantene Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins og John Coltrane har vært tydelige inspirasjonskilder for Steve Coleman, og han har samarbeidet med navn som Cecil Taylor og Dave Holland.

Steve Coleman har ikke vært mye å se på norske klubb- og festivalscener, og vi er derfor ekstra glade for å presentere han med sitt faste band siden tidlig 80-tall, Five Elements, på intime Energimølla.

The stage is set for a rare but much needed visit when the American saxophonist Steve Coleman together with Five Elements comes to Kongsberg Jazz Festival.

Steve Coleman co-founded the cohousing community M-Base in New York in the 1980s. He has been a prominent figure along with musicians such as Cassandra Wilson and Geri Allen.

All his life Steve Coleman has been an exploratory musician, experimented by mixing jazz with other musical forms. Famous jazz musicians such as Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane have been clear sources of inspirations for Steve Coleman. He has also collaborated with names like Cecil Taylor and Dave Holland.

Steve Coleman has not been a frequent visitor of the Norwegian music scene, which is why we are particularly proud to present and welcome him together with his band, Five Elements, to an intimate concert at Energimølla.
