Protagonisti su slavni slikar apstraktnog ekspresionizma Mark Rotko, koji se u svom njujorškom ateljeu, krajem pedesetih godina prošlog vijeka, bori da balansira komercijalno zavodljivu narudžbu, sa svojim umjetničkim vizijama i beskompromisnim životnim uvjerenjima; i njegov mladi asistent Ken, koji Rotka postepeno suočava sa bolnim zabludama koje gaji i blijeđenjem značaja u dinamičnom svijetu umjetnosti. Iako je Ken predstavnik mlade, nadiruće generacije umjetnika, što tek pronalazi svoj glas i osvaja prostor, dok je Rotko na neminovnom zalasku, obojici je zajedničko suočavanje sa strahom - od beznačajnosti, ali i besmisla zbog nepomirivosti ideala i načela sa nužnom nemilosrdnom borbom za prostor vidljivost, koji jedino omogućava neophodnu komunikaciju publike sa djelom.
Kroz njihove strasne, sokratske debate tokom dvije godine rada na Rotkovim muralima naručenim za buržujski restoran „Četiri godišnja doba“, sveobuhvatno i višeperspektivno se pretresaju teme uloge, relevantnosti i evolucije umjetnosti, integriteta i ambicije umjetnika, distribucije, recepcije, komercijalizacije, odnosa umjetničkog stvaranja sa biografijom, ali i cjelokupnom tradicijom, itd.
Režija Danila Marunovića je svedena i decentna, značenjski i estetski precizna, što uz odličnu, psihološki uvjerljivu glumu Branislava Lečića i Marka Grabeža nenametljivo i podsticajno posreduje idejnu gustoću komada. Branislav Lečić prostudirano gradi lik Rotka, markantno i tečno utjelovljujući njegovu transformaciju od stava samouvjerenog, egoističnog, nedijalogičnog propovjednika neupitnih istina, do rastakanja toga oklopa i pokazivanja unutrašnje ranjivosti i straha.
