Det er ikke mange jazzmusikere som har nådd ut til et så stort publikum som gitaristen Pat Metheny. Helt fra han dannet Pat Metheny Group med Lyle Mays på 1970-tallet, har han vært en favoritt både hos kritikerne og publikum. Han har spilt med en rekke storheter, fra Sonny Rollins og Ornette Coleman til Chick Corea og Joni Mitchell. Han har skrevet filmmusikk, og mottatt imponerende 17 Grammy-priser. I bagasjen har han med seg musikalske influenser fra flere ulike sjangre. Selv om han er en utpreget jazzimprovisator, er det ikke vanskelig å spore både rock og americana i hans musikalske uttrykk; og alltid er det rytmisk og melodisk med stor publikumsappell. Til konserten på Kongsberg tar han med seg tre elitemusikere i sin splitter nye kvartett: Antonio Sanchez og Linda Oh på trommer og bass, samt en av Storbritannias beste jazzpianister, walisiske Gwilym Simcock.

Jazz hasn’t got many megastars, but Pat Metheny is definitely one of them. This summer he will be kick-starting Kongsberg Jazzfestival by being the grand opening act. The concert will not only be the festivals first use of Kongsberg’s fantastic new concert hall, Musikkteatret, but also Norway’s first live encounter with Pat Methenys new super quartet. For the brand new quartet he will be accompanied by three elite musicians: Antonio Sanchez and Linda Oh on drums and bass, as well as one of Britain’s foremost jazz pianists, Gwilym Simcock.
