Hjelmeland Teater vidarefører teaterarva etter Hjelmeland Teaterlag (1983–1998), Hjelmeland Samfunnshus og Teaterlag (1999–2017) og Hjelmeland Ungdomsteater (2013–2017).
Barneteateret og Ungdomsteateret samlast til faste øvingar kvar veke, og viser to–tre framsyningar i løpet av året. Elles set Hjelmeland Teater opp revyar, komediar, musikalar eller andre mindre framsyningar, der dei vaksne skodespelarane våre får visa seg fram.
