Description

Most people would claim that killing human beings is permissible only under very strict circumstances. Furthermore, cannibalism is condemned in almost all cultures. Why is it then, that we seem much more tolerant of killing animals for food; food that we could have acquired by other means, for example by eating vegetarian products? To justify a carnivorous diet, one would need to explain that there is a relevant difference between eating animals and eating human beings for food.

To put these questions to test, we have invited philosophy professor Bjørn Torgrim Ramberg from the University of Oslo, and associate professor in philosophy, Tyler Doggett, from the University of Vermont.

Whether you are a meat-lover seeking to justify your eating habits, or a vegetarian seeking new arguments for a vegetarian diet, we hope this talk can elucidate some of the issues concerned with the killing of animals for food.

Tonight’s debate moderator is Kai Erik Westergaard. Kai is studying history of religion at the University of Oslo and has previously held events such as "Is Jesus God?" and "Does God exist?".

The talk will be held in English.
