Livet i drabantbyen er ikke så idyllisk som det skulle ha vært. I filmen møter vi den unge gutten Tor og hans familie. Faren til Tor drikker, og når han kommer hjem en dag finner han et brev fra moren som forteller at hun har flyttet ut. Tor bestemmer seg for å rømme hjemmefra, og velger å dra til skogs, hvor han slår seg ned på et sted hvor han og faren pleide å dra sammen og ha gode stunder. Vennene til Tor skjønner hva som har skjedd, og med god hjelp fra dem blir ikke Tors nye liv på flukt så vanskelig som det kunne ha vært. Det blir en opplevelsesrik tid for den unge gutten, og han lærer mye om både verdien av vennskap og om å ta grep om sitt eget liv. Nye følelser kommer også i sving for Tor denne sommeren. Han blir nemlig forelsket.
