Collien Lassie og 12 år gamle Florian er uadskillelige. Etter at Florians far mister jobben, må de flytte til en liten leilighet hvor de ikke kan ha hund. Florian er nødt til å gi fra seg Lassie til Herr von Sprengel, som lover å passe på Lassie. Men en av Von Sprengels ansatte er slem med Lassie, så hunden rømmer for å finne sin rette eier.
