Description
35 shots of rum er blitt omtalt som et intimt familieportrett. Handlingen dreier seg rundt enkemannen Lionel og hans voksne datter Joséphine. Forholdet mellom far og datter er basert på Denis’ egen mor og bestefar. Filmen er en hyllest til den japanske regissøren Yasujirō Ozu, som brukte temaer som familie og forhold mellom generasjoner i filmene sine. Denis ble inspirert av Ozus film Late Spring.
Lionel og Joséphine har et veldig nært forhold, De er fornøyde med deres enkle og rolige tilværelse. Da Lionels kollega pensjonerer seg innser han at han voksne datter vil etterhvert etablere seg, og han vil være alene. Filmen viser det uunngåelige i alle familier, at foreldre må gi slipp på sine barn slik at de kan leve selvstendige liv.
