– Alt er mulig! Det umulige tar bare litt lenger tid, sier Dag Otto Lauritzen blant annet i sitt foredrag om hvordan man kan ta tak i seg selv og sine omgivelser når man vil nå nye mål og prestere noe ekstra. Han snakker av erfaring. Som sykkelrytter vant Dag Otto store triumfer, men møtte også mange motbakker – i dobbelt forstand.
Utgangspunktet var egentlig umulig: I en fallskjermulykke mistet Dag Otto nesten benet. Det var bare han selv som så at det også lå muligheter i den fortvilte situasjonen. Et drøyt år etter ulykken vant han B-NM i sykling, og årene etterpå ble han norsk mester, to ganger nordisk mester, bronsevinner i OL, Norges første etappevinner i Tour de France og vinner av USAs største etapperitt, Tour de Trump.
Men Dag Otto måtte også takle mange skuffelser i karrièren. To ganger var han ørsmå marginer fra å bli verdensmester. Velten i innspurten i Japan i 1990 er rangert blant de bitreste nederlag i sykkelsportens historie….
Hvordan han reiste seg igjen? Oppskriften er like enkel som den er vanskelig: – Fokus og vilje er nøkkelen når motbakkene kommer, sier Dag Otto.
